Boston Tea Party-1773

The Boston Tea Party was a very complex event in history. It was full of violence, faith for our country, and of course tea in the boatloads. It all started when Britian repealed the taxes on all imports to America- all exept for tea that is. You see, colonists drank more than 2 million cups of tea a day- thats ALOT of tea, and Britian knew that. This ment the colonists were going to have to rebel, but they couldn`t stop drinking tea because that`s what they were used to. So, they refused to buy tea from Britian and started smuggling tea from Dutch ships. This new Duth Tea was alot cheaper, but not to many people were happy with it. At the same time, Britian was loosing money beccause the colonists weren`t buying tea from them. So, Britian ordered to have tea shiped directly from India to the americans who were still buying tea so Britian would make more money by cutting out the "middle man". So, in the Autumn of 1773, a fleet of ships loaded with tea reached the American ports. The merchants that would buy the tea canceled their orders and in most ports, the tea was ordered to be locked away in warehouses until the comotion about tea ended. Patriots ordered the tea to be sent back, but the governor of Massachusets said that as soon as the ship made it to the harbor, the tea had to be paid for. In December of 1773, a crowd of patriot men dressed as Mohawk Indians attaked a ship and, with a crowd's approval, threw 10,000 pounds (English money) of tea of the ship and this is what was known as the Boston Tea Party.
